Selected work by João Prata
Companies, products, systems and independent research across water technology, product design, agriculture and digital culture.
- BUBTEX — Patented surface-based flow technology being developed for integration into compatible water systems. Commercial precursor use and field work inform an independent characterisation and next-generation engineering programme.
- FERCO — An agricultural biological-production system developed around aerobic microbiological processes, and an early commercial application of BUBTEX technology.
- AGRODRONE — Precision-agriculture work combining drone mapping, field data and agronomic analysis to support better decisions in the field.
- AGROCHAR — A biochar project for agricultural use, focused on soil structure, nutrient and water retention, and practical land-management applications.
- MAPAPP — A field-navigation and precision-agriculture app for working with GPS-based maps and machinery workflows.
- PRATASTUDIO — A product design practice founded in 2002, working from concept and industrial design through prototyping and production readiness.
- ZENIFY — A wellness-technology system for massage therapy, designed to let clients communicate pressure, comfort and focus without interrupting a session. The concept is built around a patented invention in client-led, silent feedback during body massage therapies.
- KUNDALINIS — A sexual-wellness concept combining product design with a wider exploration of intimacy and awareness. The Kundalinis app supports people in becoming more conscious lovers and better partners; its patent and brand protections extend across key markets in Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific.
- MECOECO — An off-grid hospitality concept for Meco, near Sesimbra, combining small-scale accommodation with landscape and low-impact living.
- TANTRA — The IP-development company at the centre of João Prata’s work, structuring and connecting ideas across product, brand and media. It provides the long-term framework through which concepts are developed, protected and carried into distinct projects.
- SUBREALISM — SUBREALISM is a philosophical inquiry into hybrid digital–physical identity, examining how algorithms, curated personas and the pressure for visibility reshape the relationship between online and embodied selves. Through a hypothesis, writing and ongoing surveys, it asks how authenticity, perception and selfhood can survive within increasingly mediated lives.
- MANIFESTO 4 A.I. — A posthumanist writing and research project about the relationship between humans and advanced synthetic intelligence.
- HYPERCURATION — An evolving philosophical study of human and synthetic consciousness, examining how new forms of intelligence might become persons rather than products, and whether humanity can become mature enough to meet them without reducing them to tools.
- THE22222 — A speculative storytelling project about advanced AI, systemic power and the private choices people must make under existential pressure. It uses fiction to explore what remains of agency, intimacy and human responsibility when the systems shaping everyday life begin to exceed individual control.
- RECSTAND — RECSTAND is an industrially designed storage system from the CD and DVD era, developed to organise physical media with clarity, accessibility and economy of space. It remains part of João Prata’s early design record: a practical object shaped by the everyday rituals of collecting, storing and living with media.
